Objective

Sumihiri Transliteration Scheme is only provided here as an easily accessible reference.

"Sumihiri reserves the single 'e' to indicate the 'ə' phonetic sound as it makes it easier to read text written in sumihiri. As a result, for example, 'ka' and 'ke' would correspond to the same sinhala letter whereas the two are pronounced differently. So either one will work when writing. On the other hand, as the single 'e' has been used for this purpose, in order to represent the sound of 'e' in, say 'mess', sumihiri uses the letter 'E'. However, for the convenience in writing, the prolonged sound of 'E' is still obtained by writing 'ee'." - Camillus Jayewardena
