Description :

VDRIP is a stand-alone encoding utility to convert MPEG2 format Videos (in TS or PS container formats) to MPEG4 ASP .avi files (Lavc,XviD,DivX).

It is a free software running under a GNU/Linux distribution and is released under the GNU/GPL License.

VDRIP is supplied as an all-in-one file : vdrip.pl .  There is no GUI (Graphical User Interface).

The commands are entered in a Terminal or Console window : it is an easy way to produce compact mpeg4 multimedia files in high quality.

This video format is the most widely used in many kinds of platforms like multimedia boxes and compatible devices.

VDRIP Highlights :

• automatic crop detection (this feature can be disabled)
• one or two passes rip encoding
• produces mpeg4-asp format avifiles for better interoperability
• preserves the MPEG2 ratio when rescaling
• desinterlaces the frames (may be disabled)
• 2 steps encoding allowing further use when computer is idle
• encoding running at minimum CPU and I/O priority
• high quality encoding, the utility selects the HQ codec 'lavc' from the libavcodec
• can process either TS or PS mpeg2 stream formats
• mpeg4 avifiles are compatible with most video editing products
• simple to use to produce results in a very little time
• uses the MPlayer and MEncoder softwares to generate reliable digital videos.
