Installation

You'll need:

Backbone requires ClanLib. It is tested and developed for v.0.7.8 of ClanLib, and actually requires pretty recent version of that library. In fact, 0.7.8 contains several nasty bugs that may make Backbone freeze from time to time. See BUGS, or file clpatch/README in distribution archive for more details. Hopefully, 0.7.9 will appear soon.

Backbone is being developed under linux. It works for me, and if there are any problems building it on your site, don't hesitate to contact me (see below). I'm not sure how it's going to run on Windows machines. Probably some features will be problematic - such as seeking $HOME environment variable. I don't have Windows box anywhere handy (not talking about Windows box with ClanLib installed), thus I don't exactly know where the problems appear.

System-wide Installation itself is not currently supported. The game is meant to run from the source directory. To compile and run, issue following commands:

License & Copying

Hm, license issues are a bit problematic for the time being. I'd like the game to be GPLd, however currently that pays only for source code part of the distribution. Datafiles are mix of Artistic License (resources taken from Chromium) and free web resources, that I just can't cover by any license. As late as 0.2, it should be clear which parts are licensed how - the game will be distributed in distinct packages, each covered by single, OSI-friendly license.
